The GOP Id vs. The GOP SuperEgo - Part II

"And I can tell you that they have an agenda that causes them to be indifferent as to whether the GOP wins or loses."
I began  with this quote from my previous "Part I" post. Because this best describes the Elitists/Globalists that are in the drivers seat of "our" GOP. They are influencing, driving, steering the party in a direction where winning is going to be impossible. And they know it!  We see the manifestations of this on other issues but especially surrounding the illegal immigration issue.  There is no greater symbol or collection of  this globalist mentality as you will find within the Manhattan Institute (MI). They bill themselves as a conservative think tank. This is President Bush's "go to" think tank ( http://www.manhattan-institute.org/html/magnet.htm ). He,  Rove and MI's Myron Magnet plotted the "roadmap to compassionate conservatism".  And no doubt there are some brilliant conservative minds within MI and they've done much for  conservative causes.  But  they have strayed off into this Globalists mindset.  Especially within a compartment of their org that deals with immigration issues.  When MI is asked to "comment" on immigration issues they always march out an elitist little tart named Tamar Jacoby.  She is the point person when it comes to their unwavering support for the McCain/Kennedy Immigration Reform Bill ( http://www.manhattan-institute.org/html/immigration_bill_pr.htm ) so you must assume that the entire MI has become globalist in their thinking. They view the concept of sovereign borders and nationalism as antiquated.  Obsolete thinking.  So anyone on the GOP side  who disagree's with MI's position gets Ms. Jacoby loosed on them.   She has become so predictable, however. Her first attack wave - always with a pointy finger is, "You are anti-immigration. You are a Nativist." ( http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A47006-2004Nov12.html?sub=AR ).  Which, of course, is not true - and she knows it but these "brands" are an effective weapon.   I find her written opinions or quotes to be extremely amusing because she doesn't try to hide her contempt for  Middle America fly-over-state voters and the anti-"illegal "immigration forces. In one article she states, "they are mostly males, white and lack college degree's" or "unthinking"  ( http://www.foreignaffairs.org/20061101faessay85606/tamar-jacoby/immigration-nation.html ). Tamar evidently believes that anything learned outside the halls of some ivy league university is just not useful information.    MI really needs to send our little Tamar off to sensitivity training.  She really is a smart cookie and at times she almost gets it ( http://www.manhattan-institute.org/html/_wsj-getting_beyond_aword.htm ). There's hope for Tamar and MI! They simply need to invite a few more folks from the fly-over states as "vistin' fellers".  Ha!  Not likely to happen. Tamar and MI are masterful at crafting, wording and manipulating polls that they commission,  many from  Ed Goeas and the Tarrance Group, in order to get the end conclusion that they want to submit to government leaders.  They make very convincing arguments as to why the southern border should remain porous.  And they can point out that the "anti-immigration" (as they call them-again not true) candidates like J.D. Hayworth, Rick Santorum, and George Allen all lost  on 11/7.  Tamar is gleeful about this in her writings ( http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/news/articles/0921congressional-races0921.html ).  And that makes me wonder if, behind the scenes, the MI might have been working against these candidates (  http://www.azchamber.com/content.cfm?page=article&commid=00&artid=95 ) .   I know what your thinking, "Gee another conspiracy theory".  Well maybe.  But they do have a strong motivation.  Because the MI has strong links to the business community.  The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has joined with them on numerous occasions.  And the USCoC has also strongly endorsed McCain/Kennedy.  The USCoC wants to keep the flow of cheap labor coming into the U.S. and they believe, falsely, that if we seal the Mexican border that will permanently damage our economy.  In a way their motivation "seems" good but they are totally wrong and misguided.   Their CEO, Thomas Donohue, comes across as a conservative, level headed individual ( http://www.uschamber.com/press/speeches/2005/050526_immigration_border_security_citizenship.htm ) but the USCoC has thrown its full support behind McCain/Kennedy!  The Heritage Foundation has a poor opinion of McCain/Kennedy ( http://www.heritage.org/Research/GovernmentReform/em975.cfm ).  The way they describe it, it sounds to me like eating tomato soup with a fork.  There will be so many ways to "beat the system" that it will be ineffective and the status quo will continue. Which is really what Mr. Donohue and the business community want.  Business does not like change when times are good. But aren't they like all of us in that respect?  They are resisting with all the dollars they can throw at it.  And who's catching those dollars?   The answer: Manhattan Institute, John McCain, the RNC, and any GOP candidate who'll play ball.

Who was it that said "follow the money"?  The money is flowing. The MI and the USCoC can operate just as well in a Hillary Clinton administration as they can in the present environ and keep the money flowing.

So we now have the little Angel and Demon perched on our shoulder. The little devil is saying, "you have to be realistic. You are really powerless to change the way things are. Cast your GOP vote and go about your business. Let the people who know the real situation handle the future of your nation. Take the path of least resistance. Make it easy on yourself".  But the little Angel says, " every American generation has had to fight, on and off the battlefield, in order to maintain our freedom and sovereignty. If you surrender you will lose. Fight on. You can achieve a win in 2008".

So The GOP Id continues to follow the money.  The GOP SuperEgo has only their vote to speak with and they spoke loudly on 11/7/06.  And even though attackers like Tamar Jacoby  try to explain away the significance of this, we should not be discouraged. We have been heard.  DD
LATE ADDITION:  12/10/08 -

Today I received information from an extreme reliable and respected source that my criticisms of the Manhattan Institute should be moderated. And that Tamar Jacoby is no longer w/the organization. The message I rec’d is as follows:

“Tamar Jacoby’s position at Manhattan Institute is a minority one. Both Myron Magnet and Heather MacDonald disagree with her and are for stronger border control and ending illegal immigration (and Heather is for restricting immigration numbers). Manhattan published a book The Immigration Solution in 2007 with writing by Magnet, MacDonald, Victor Davis Hanson, and Steven Malanga that is a move in the right direction away from the Tamar position (she has left Manhattan and head a pro-open borders business group).”

So I’d like to take this opportunity to offer Myron, Heather, Victor, Steven and the Manhattan Institute an olive branch of sorts. Or an outright apology.   Hope you understand that sometime when you’re swinging at an adversary in a brawl there’s going to be some civilian casualties if they’re in the periphery. I’d warn you, its good for one to be vigilant about one’s associations, too.

The GOP Id vs. The GOP SuperEgo - Part I

Certainly the schizo GOP could use Sigmund Freud's couch about now.  I sometimes imagine the GOP as a person pondering which direction to take. And in my minds eye I see George W. Bush's face on that persons body.   Lets call him GOP George.  Now prior to 11/7/06 one can imagine a little pop-up shoulder Angel on his right shoulder (like in the cartoons) -  his conscience saying, "our sovereign borders protect our nation.  Our nation  gives us pride and an  identity which we're losing. Those streaming across our southern border are causing severe hardship for Middle Americans and those coming across do not respect or cherish our nation".  And then the little Angel says, " certainly you've reviewed Cong. McCauls report on the sourthwest border crisis? If not here's the website:  http://www.house.gov/mccaul/pdf/Investigaions-Border-Report.pdf ."  (as you can see the little angel is well informed-must read townhall)   And to me the little angel symbolizes the loyal, solid GOP base. The SuperEgo of the GOP! The ones who rally'd and pushed "W" over the top in 2000 and 2004.  Not to forget the 2002 mid-term elections either.  Which also proves things need not go down the drain in a mid term election.  This ultra-loyal base is not only the foundation of the GOP but is an uplifting force.

But there is a downward force that has been pushing on our Grand Old Party.  On GOP George's left shoulder also sat the slimey Id. A cloven hooved demon whispering temptations in his ear. Saying, "George. Its not necessary to listen to your base supporters. You should  tune them out. They'll vote for you no matter what happens. They complain a lot but they love you! Anyway, they're just uneducated hayseeds".  And GOP George replied, "Yea. A bunch of Vigilante's".  And the little devil said, "You only need concern yourself with the Hispanic vote. You don't want to alienate them. Look at the TV. See all those people  marching in the streets waving Mexican flags? And burning American flags? That is your best hope. They will put you over the top this November 7th".  GOP George turned to the little devil then nodded, smiled and winked.

Just as in the old cartoons whichever the main character chose, the angel or the demon,  the other would vanish. And on November 7th the little angel went "poof".  And vanished. Either staying at home or protest voting for a 3rd party canditate or dem.

So there is this "devilish" side of the GOP.  If our party is to have a chance in 2008 we must force these scoundrels out into the open so that we can deal with them.  In some of my previous opinion pieces I've hammered Karl Rove and Ken Mehlman hard.  I believe they should've resigned within a week after 11/7.

But there are others.  Operating behind the scenes and in the shadows. One is Grover Norquist.  A very close adviser to the President and Karl Rove.  Some called him the "Field Marshall" of the Bush plan during the 2000 election (and beyond). He actually got all the credit for Bush's win while the GOP Base got none.  He is the head of an organization called "Americans for Tax Reform".  Sounds great huh?  And he's done some great things for conservatives.  But when it comes to the illegal immigration issue he is pro status quo. He wants things to remain just as they are. The more wide open our borders are, the better he likes it.  He is a brilliant man. He has uncanny abilities to influence, convince and turn people from a straight road down some winding path that he wants them to travel. Not only has he influenced the President and Rove but he's even been able to seduce stalwarts such as Ralph Reed of the Christian Coalition and convince him to oppose strict immigration bills in the House of Rep's. Which he successfully did in 1996.   (  http://www.peachpundit.com/?p=1578 ). He is the driving force that has convinced the President, Rove and the RNC hierarchy that the Hispanic vote is crucial to the GOP.  Although many believe that the Hispanic vote is way over rated.  In December 05 Norquist co-authored a revealing article in Hispanic Business Magazine with Tamar Jacoby (we'll examine this lady at a later date)
http://www.hispanicbusiness.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4517  )  in which he not only pandered to the Hispanic business community but he criticized the Sensenbrenner congressional bill being debated at the time.  He also painted Tom Tancredo as some right wing fringe radical.   You have to know that the Hispanic business community are huge beneficiaries of the stream of cheap labor coming across the Mexican border.  And a huge source of revenue for the Norquist side of the GOP.   Norquists true feelings also surfaced in a July 05 article in The Hill (  http://www.thehill.com/thehill/export/TheHill/News/Frontpage/072705/gop.html ) where he blasted conservative talk radio and took another jab at Tancredo.  There's no shortage of Norquist quotes expressing his opposition to any strict control of the southern border.  He doesn't try to hide his feelings. But he's smart enough to operate in the shadows and back rooms.  He know's his opinions are not popular among the GOP base.  I'd be willing to bet you that on 11/8/06 he privately celebrated the outcome of the election.  My gut feeling is that a GOP win is way down on his list of priorities.

The most troubling aspect of Mr. Grover Norquist is his ties to radical Islam. Yes - its shocking but true.  There are some who believe, with good reason, that Mr. Norquist has actually converted to Islam after his marriage to Samah Alrayyes in 2005.  Together they have passionately promoted Islamic causes and some with ties to radical Islamists. (  http://www.frontpagemag.com/articles/readarticle.asp?ID=11209 ) Even after members of these organizations have been arrested, the Norquists did not disassociate themselves with the groups.  And on top of that our President, Mr. Rove and the RNC did not cease seeking counsel from Mr. Norquist.

All of this being said and clearly understood, logically one monster question must now be answered:  Why would someone who has close ties to radical Islam work so hard to insure that our southern border with Mexico remain porous and unprotected?  If you answered that question as I did, well you've probably broken out in a cold sweat.  Especially knowing how close Mr. Norquist is to our President.

We who call ourselves or think of ourselves as Republicans have all thought, down to the last man and woman among us, regarding the GOP, "are the lunatics running the asylum!"   I hope that this exposure of Mr. Norquist might answer that question or partially answer it.  Although he's probably the worst of the bunch there are others. And I can tell you that they have an agenda that causes them to be indifferent as to whether the GOP wins or loses.  So keep watching my site for    The GOP Id vs. The GOP SuperEgo - Part II.   Later!
