The "Culture of the Drunk" Migrates Northward

Texas and other border states have suffered as a result of illegal immigration for years.   And we've received zero help from the northern states until some of that pain and suffering  began to “migrate” north into their backyards and have a negative effect upon them.   But that’s what we’ve learned to expect from the more self-centered segment of our U.S. population in the north/northeast. Ha!  And so now it seems that they are on board with  us and, hey, better late than never.  Welcome aboard!  We luv ya!

So now that most of the nation is on the same page, as the polls show,  it might help solidify and unify our efforts if we break it down a bit.  Analyze the problem.  Actually there is a myriad of  categories under the heading “Illegal Immigration Problem”. ( link )  One category that has been in the national news lately has been that of  drunken illegals driving and killing U.S. citizens.   You have the “Geraldo Riveras’” of the world saying that it is “irrelevant” that the perpetrator is illegal and that it could have just as easily been a drunken legal resident or citizen.  Not so fast GeraldoMADD says your wrong.  I think they’ve done a few studies on the subject and know a bit more than Geraldo. (which isn’t saying much)  MADD says just the opposite. Something that we, here in Texas, have known for decades.   And that is, along with the illegal immigrants came their  “drinking culture”.   And we’re talking mostly the men folk here where drinking to excess is considered machismo or something like that.    And according to the MADD study, conducted by the Alcohol Policy Group, drinking in Mexico can start at  the tender age of 12 (or younger) and is considered a “rite of passage”.   And get this – in Mexico there are 2 “Drunk Drivers Nights” per year!  Christmas and New Years where its “hands off” of all drunk drivers by the authorities.  Can you imagine this?  It’d be fun to get on the roof of a sturdy building and watch the destruction derby below.  But this fabulous MADD study clearly shows that the instance of drunk driving is lopsided in favor of Hispanics and apparently/specifically those from south of the border.

So the question begs to be answered.  Can the surge in dui/drunk driving  incidences be directly attributed to the increase of illegal immigrants streaming across our southern border?  Seems a fairly easy question to answer.  Huhmm?   Darvin Dowdy

The Don Quixotes of our Era

After a busy day of traveling recently on a business trip, I finally reached my hotel room where I immediately unpacked, ordered from room service, found the remote and plopped on the bed.  Powering on the tube I found little.  Until I happened upon, of all things, PBS.  They had a bio of Theodor Geisel.  Or as he is better known, Dr. Suess the children’s book writer.  I never knew that he came up during the depression/ World War II era and that he was an extreme left-winger.  But as I watched the documentary I was fascinated by one glaring fact.  And that was  the left leaning Geisel and his New York liberal associates were not only for WWII but were aggressive about it.  Wanting to contribute in some way to the war effort.   As was the case with "most" of the other factions, groups, segments of that particular society during that particular  time period in America.   And this really started to stick in my craw.  "What a rip!", I thought.  "Why can't we have that kind of unity in our present generation?" I asked myself.  I found myself really coveting what they had and began the process of analyzing why our generation is so different.  Because if you stack up the Nazi’s side by side with the radical jihadists it seems to me that our current enemy has at least an equally sinister purpose as the Nazi’s. Or more so.  So the motivation should easily be there to unify against this enemy, shouldn’t it?  Are Americans so different now than they were 67 years ago?

Of course there is little resemblance between the modern day U.S. citizen and the “Greatest Generation” of World War II, generally.  There are many wonderful exceptions, however.  But for the most part our present generation has different priorities.  Over 9 million Americans enlisted in World War II.  Nine million volunteers!  Sixteen million  served in that war.  And today the U.S. Military has some difficulty making their recruiting goals and keeping their 1.43 million troop force  (active duty )up to strength.   And these valiant few are carrying far too heavy a load.  Less than one half of one percent are carrying the load for all of us.

So why the lack of  enthusiasm for this war we’re waging against an obvious evil enemy?  Wanting to always think “good thoughts” about my fellow citizens I seem to only be able to come to one conclusion.  Too many folks these days are in deep denial.   They no longer have, lets call it a “higher power” or  a long standing set of traditions or values to fall back on or to  turn towards for answers or direction.   As a result they’re delicate ego is constantly having to balance their id and superego.   And as that becomes more and more difficult the ego becomes raw.  Inflamed. Threatened.  Again, I’m speaking of people here that are on their own.   They have rejected the Father/Son/Holy Spirit.  The Bible.  All  legend and mumbo jumbo in their view.   Not that there’s anything wrong with that, mind you. Ha!   So we have this external threat to the ego.  The id and the superego are battling for the ego’s attention. Like the little shoulder devil and angel that we see in the cartoons.   The ego gets confused and blows a fuse!  Out of this anxiety the ego deploys an ego defense mechanism.   Like denial.  Another defense mechanism is displacement.   How does that work?  Well lets use a recent event in history to demonstrate.  Terrorists crash multiple jet aircraft into buildings on 9/11/01 killing 3000 innocent Americans.   We’ll create a fictional 25 year old "single" male named Tom.   Tom is deeply disturbed and horrified by  the event.  His superego tells him he must do something for his nation in its time of need.  His id tells him there’s nothing he can do.  Ignore it.  Forget it.  The inner conflict goes on for months. Years.  Tom is afraid to stand up and help his nation.  The anxiety gets to be too much and Tom breaks.  A displacement defense mechanism is deployed because Tom can’t admit to himself that he is actually a coward.  That admission of cowardice would damage his ego.  Tom redirects his fears and emotions from the fearful object of the Global War on Terrorism towards something much less threatening.  Something that he can handle and deal with.  Even if its something that he must invent.  Preferably something that can be made to look like a threat but , in reality, is not a threat.  Something that Tom can fight against but that won’t fight back at him.  Tom is looking to displace his need to be a responsible, courageous citizen of his nation, with something that is less fearful and difficult.  Tom has taken the cowards “way” out.  The “path” of least resistance.   As have millions of U.S. citizens, out of fear and anxiety.  Now all possibly on a fast track  to mild psychosis.  In this sense the radical jihadist has had a certain degree of success by his  use of terror as a tactic.

Hence, too many of our fellow citizens have this personality disorder and as a result have invented in their own minds a fixed fantasy.  They have imagined and created  their own “bogeyman” and have openly challenged this non-existent phantom, Don Quixote style,  knowing full well that it won’t retaliate with physical violence.  At least they have that knowledge in their subconscious.   Which is “the” prerequisite  in their choice of an adversary, by the way.   Examples:  Blaming America for 9/11.   Bush Derangement Syndrome (BDS).   The “Blame America first crowd”.   The continuous villainization of  Dick Chenney and Halliburton.   And the complete embracement of the Man-made Global Warming Myth.   This “Global Warming/Sky is Falling”  craze is probably the most common because it is densely populated with others of like mind.  And it is headed up by a former Vice-President of the United States who, most likely, has a mental disorder himself.  Having never come to grips with his loss in year 2000.  Mr. Gore is only making things worse for himself, however.  He’s digging himself into a deeper hole than he’s already in.  Mentally.  He has done our nation a huge disservice by distracting a large, weak minded portion of our population away from the truly serious issue of the Global War on Terrorism towards a non-issue.  He has divided and significantly weakened our nation and one day he’ll come to realize what he’s done.  And when that day comes it will be devastating for him.  He’ll most likely not recover.

So how should we approach these looney nut-cases?  Make fun of them? Call them names?  That’s the common tactic used by our side.  But not by me. No sir. You won’t catch me calling them looney nut-cases.  In all seriousness, though, we should have sympathy/empathy towards them.  Compassion.  They could still be reached. Especially if they happen to be on their medication.  We can’t give up on them. However, we can't let them determine the direction our nation takes, either.  The scary part being that they do have a vote.

And to you "Tom's" who do know the true peril that our nation is in, recognizing the insidious enemy that we're up against and you continue to opt not to stand up (link) and defend her and do your duty, you deserve no respect.   Darvin Dowdy

Hey Duncan Hunter - You Didn't Do What I Told You To Do!

As your self-appointed consultant, I reserve the right to say "I told you so" when you don't follow my wise counsel.  So here goes -  I told you so.  Ha!   Sorry. I know you must be in a humorless mood after Saturday.  Ok now that we have that behind us, on to our next "consultation".  Now this time Duncan, listen up.

What really happened on Saturday in Iowa?  Lets go back to July 21st.   Gov. Romney announced that he would "scale back"  on his efforts for the Iowa Straw.  Remember?  As Rudy and McCain had also proclaimed and done.  Romney said very humbly, "we hope to do well but we're not trying to overshoot".   Right.  Looks like those in the Duncan Hunter campaign were the only ones who actually bought into that load of bologny.   Of course the good Governor did exactly the opposite as we now know  with a massive presence and millions spent.  We see the real Mitt Romney now.  A fierce competitor who will not hesitate to trick or deceive his foe in order to win.  And in this case almost a bait-n-switch aimed at deceiving his fellow GOP candidates.  Trying to get them to relax their effort.   I don't condemn him for that.  But I'd like to see a bit more political savvy inside the Hunter organization.  And as I advised in my first "Hey Duncan Hunter" advisory, you, Duncan,  should have appeared there in Iowa, in the flesh, at least 2 weeks prior to the Straw Poll.  And stayed there.  Don't believe you did that did you?  I know you've got a job but now days they have computers, faxes and work centers in all of the hotels.  Fedex and UPS can deliver,  p/u and overnight packets, etc.  If need be a red-eye round trip flight back to D.C.   Not that you really had a chance to win in Iowa.   "What?" you say?

Yes I know I advised you that you "must win".  What else would a hot-shot consultant say?  Had to tell you that. But look at who your dealing with here, Duncan.   Iowans.  These are self-centered folks who have slopped at the federal farm subsidies trough for decades!   Paid $15 Billion by the American tax payer from 1995-2005  not to work!  They're mind numbed, institutionalized zombies.  Waiting for their next U.S. Treasury check in the mail.  And right now they're consumed with their own self importance what with all the attention they're getting.  Amazing isn't it?  All for their measly 7 electoral votes!  Being a purple state, however,  that's not even guaranteed.  So don't fret too much.  But it would've been nice if you could have taken that 2nd or 3rd spot.  And I believe you could have, had you spent more time there.

Or maybe you could've had 4th place.  The spot that Tom Tancredo took.  I previously advised you to proclaim that you are  the "pro-immigration candidate".  Legal, selective, fair and controlled immigration.  Why?  Because Cong. Tancredo has said that we should stop all Legal Immigration. (At the Wolf Blitzer debate) He came across as a Nativist because of that statement. I know he's not one but he blundered.  I, personally, was shocked because I have huge respect for the man.  I thought he'd misspoken.  But the deed is done and he didn't retract the statement.   It was your opportunity to put distance between yourself and him.  And that is very important.  People view you 2 as the "anti-immigration" candidates.  They kind of lump you 2 together.  You need to demonstrate how your 2 visions are different.  I know he's a friend. And we all love the guy.  But that's politics!  Its not necessary to brutalize your opponents and I'm glad you don't. They're all honorable guys.  Save the brutality for the dem's who deserve it.  But you've got to gently but forcefully put that "distance" between you and your GOP opponents.  Especially Tancredo.  And this pro-legal immigration tact is a way to accomplish that.   Please review my previous correspondence and reconsider this advice.

And your website.  Totally ignored me on that one, too, didn't you? How many days now - weeks - have I gone to your site and seen the same you-tube of you and Lou Dobbs?  Boooooorrrrrrinnng!  Where's that daily updated blog? With info on how your positions line up with what is actually happening in the world.  Bi-weekly Essay's?  The weekly web-radio program hosted by you - Duncan Hunter himself.  Where?  I know there must be tons of computer geek  volunteers who'd help you with this.  This is your way to counter the systematic blockage of you by the MSM.  Don't deny its happening although its been a bit better lately.

Duncan it pains me to tell you this.  But you're starting to sound like a broken record.  Folks are starting to yawn  and doze off now when you talk about your big 3 issues: China trade, the GWOT/Iraq, and the fence.  Time to go on to some other subjects.  Folks want to know what you intend to do after you build the fence.  How will you deal with the 12-20 million illegals still in the country?  What's your plan?  What about the Canadian border?  How do you feel about the man-made global warming myth? Or do you think its a myth?  What about Kyoto? Can we count on you to resist pressure from the rest of the world when they demand that we sign off on that?  World opinion vs what is best for the U.S.? What's your take on that subject?

And recognition and pursuit of specific, ignored voting blocks.  Remember? Please review what I advised you on that subject.   You must be more organized and aggressive in this area.

Duncan please don't become discouraged and consider quiting.   This nation needs, desperately, a candidate like you.  I've been posting an idea on pro-Duncan Hunter websites and blogs.  We need 10,000 Hunter Rangers to commit to sending you $20. per month at least for a the next 6 months or so.   I believe it'll take hold and that should be enough to keep your campaign afloat.  Darvin Dowdy

Talk Radio Ensnared by a Cunning White House

And how could they refuse?  They all have a strong sense of duty and honor. They respect the Office of the President.  So when the President calls, they must go.  Even though they had to know they were being used.  And, of course, the President and Karl Rove know what to expect from  this noble group.  And they must also have known that these individuals would be criticized for attending this session.  But Rove and the President only care about their own political hides.  They could care less who they damage in the process of covering their own back sides and prop'ing up their own failing image and numbers.

So this past Wednesday morning, August 1st, ten  top conservative talk radio hosts came to the White House.  Obediently, respectfully, humbly and dutifully.   Again, knowing that they were being used.  This is a collection of sharp witted, super intellects.  They had to know they were being exploited!  They had to know. And after leaving I'm sure they all couldn't wait to get home and shower.

But everyone gets "used" from time to time.  Especially in the  business they're in.  There is no real criticism due them, is there?  They are our comrades in this struggle to save our nation.  We can only hope that at some point in their visit either one or more of them had an opportunity [and took it] to castigate the President for his continued injury to our GOP.  Mostly due to his continued stubborn attachment to what master blogger John Hawkins calls the "Rovian School of Thought".  The sacrifice and compromise of all; our sovereignty, national identity, respect for the laws of the land, and the alienation of the GOP base - all for 30-40% of the Hispanic vote.  The reckless insanity of that "thought" process!   And we would also hope that  that one or more of our Talkers would remind the President of the real power of the GOP base.   And how they, the base,  were able to completely shut down the McCain/Kennedy Immigration Bill back in June.  And then we would hope that they would ask the President  if he would like to have the support of the GOP base on such issues as the Federal Prosecutor Firings.  Wouldn't that make life a lot easier?  Its not going to happen, however.

And last - but most important.  We hope that one or more of our hero's had the President backed into a corner and looking at him eye to eye, about  one inch from his face telling him how little he and his genius K. Rove know about the GOP voter.  And explaining to him that there is no group of advisers or strategists who know more about the conservative GOP voting block than Conservative Talk Radio jockey's and that they'd do well to listen to our wise counsel periodically.  And rather than call us here to "talk at us" they should be sitting and listening "to us".  Also, because of your stubborn blockheadedness you are doing more to damage the Global War on Terror than any  democrat.  BECAUSE YOU ARE FRUSTRATING YOUR BASE!  And causing them to become exasperated, hence dropping out of the processThey're staying at home on election day.  Leaving the kook fringes to fill the vacuum.  The average conservative voter has better things to do. These are people with careers and busy lives and they are in no mood to have their representative party dis'ing/insulting and ignoring them.   We, Mr. President, know these people better than anyone.   And without them the Republican Party has not hope.

Its doubtful that any of these kinds of exchanges took place.   These "10" should have phone conferenced the night before and had a single spokesperson.  And demanded that the President and K. Rove sit and listen at least for a specified time to their critique.  Five to Ten minutes would be sufficient!  Not too much to ask considering these folks got Mr. Bush elected.  Twice.  But instead they went in and allowed the President to have complete control.  They sat around and shot the breeze, apparently.  No "unpleasantries" allowed.   They'd even agreed that they would not speak openly about the meeting afterwards!  No direct quotes.  What was the use of it?  Another missed opportunity.  Another reason why a GOP loss is looking more and more inevitable come November '08.  Our team simply doesn't see the urgency of the situation.
