Hey Duncan Hunter - A Voice Crying Out (to You) from the Wilderness

As your self-appointed consultant, it is my job to let you know that there is a grand opportunity for you.  First, I want to remind you of something I wrote to you  before.  About the recognition and pursuit of  specific blocks of potential voters. Letting these groups know that you are, first aware of them and their set of particular problems and second that you genuinely care about them.  Remember?  No!  Well please review: ( link ).   After all, sir, with all due respect, these people aren’t going to come to you.  Recognition and pursuit!  You must go to them.

This past week one of these “blocks” surfaced and their elected leader cried out for help.  When I heard of this not so veiled plea I immediately knew in my gut that the only person that could possibly help these people would be Duncan Hunter.  This organization – The International Brotherhood of Teamsters.   Their leader – James P. Hoffa.   Their dilemma:  the Bush administration standing on the Mexican Border waving in ragged, unsafe, polluting Mexican trucks giving them a “high five” as they drive across the bridge headed into the American heartland.  Also, no telling what kind of person is behind the wheel of this Mexican death wagon.  Certainly one that will work for far less.   And to demonstrate their brazen arrogance, the Bush administration begins this policy on the Labor Day weekend!   As Mr. Hoffa pointed out in the radio interview with G. Gordon Liddy ( link )  “what a slap in the face to the American Worker”.   Sir, I do recommend that you listen to this radio interview.  And the interview with WND’s Jerome Corsi also on the above link.

The Teamsters are rallying pitifully, trying to bring some kind of lawsuit.   Which probably won’t get any traction.  But what choice do they have?  They must at least try.  Who else can they turn to?  Its not like the glory days of the 1980’s  when the Teamsters had President Reagan’s leadership to fall back on.  Because, as I’m sure you remember, the Teamsters did endorse Ronald Reagan twice for President!  But, of course,  George W. Bush is no Ronald Reagan, now is he?  Ronald Reagan would never have slung the vicious insults at the GOP voting base as George Bush has.

Duncan, as your self-appointed consultant, I strongly urge you, at the soonest possible opportunity to get yourself into a room with a telephone and make every effort to contact Mr. James P. Hoffa .   Let him know that in a Duncan Hunter administration there would be no such Mexican trucks streaming across the border.   Remind him that once the 854 mile fence is built and existing immigration laws are, again, seriously enforced that the wages of U.S. workers will begin to rise.   Make him aware of your other stances on bringing back factories and  manufacturing jobs.  Let him know also, that in a Duncan Hunter administration that the “out to lunch” sign would be taken off of the front door of the Department of Labor and that once the cobwebs were cleaned out of the offices, this DoL agency would once again be effective and helpful to the American worker.  And Duncan, do not hang up that telephone until you have the Teamsters Union endorsement.

There is a deep fissure developing between the Rank and File union member and its leadership over the illegal immigration issue.  The Union leadership is for open borders.  All they can see, in their greed and lust for power  is the increased numbers paying increased union dues.  However, the Rank and File aren’t stupid.  They see the inevitable decreased wages and increased competition for jobs with people that aren’t even American citizens.  And they don’t like it.   This rift bubbled to the surface last year when Sen. McCain spoke to a group of AFL-CIO members.  He thought he was before a sympathetic audience but when he started with his tripe about illegals doing jobs Americans won’t do,   Sen. McCain was soundly boo’ed!   Almost forced to leave the stage.

Duncan, this major split between Union Leadership and the Rank and File members is a gift for you.  Its like you’re walking down the street and you look down – there’s  $100. bill.  Pick it up!  You could own the Union/Blue Collar vote considering your existing positions on China Trade, the Border Fence, bringing back manufacturing jobs, etc.   And that without compromising any conservative standards or principles.  To include the secret ballot position.   You can bet that the Rank and File want nothing to do with that, either.  Doing away with the secret ballot is something that only the Union Leadership and the DNC want.

How to proceed.  Start with the Teamsters. Go full tilt to get their endorsement. Start this week on that initiative, please sir!  Next, seek out other possible endorsements from moderate unions.  But in the end its going to come down to reaching the rank and file members. Getting your message to them.  That’s approximately 12% of American workers or about 15.4 million.  I have no doubt that most would respond positively to your message and positions.  The trick is, how to get your message to them.   As your self-appointed consultant, I believe that if these folks heard, in the next few weeks, that the Brotherhood of Teamsters had  endorsed Duncan Hunter for President,  that would immediately pique their interest.  To the extent that they might seek out information about you or visit your website.  And by that time there might be a page on your site dedicated to the Union Rank and File members and why they should support Duncan Hunter.  Right?  My question being, why isn’t there already one?

One more little “sticky” item here, sir.  For far too long the President and Karl Rove have been slinging insults toward the GOP Base.  That same Base that boosted “W’s” behind over the top in both 2000 and 2004.  Not to mention the 2002 mid-terms.  Huge insults!  Like implying that the Minutemen were vigilantes. ( link1 ).  And lets not forget the continued insult from the President that the illegals are here to do the jobs Americans won’t do. A huge insult to the American worker. ( link2 )  Recently the President openly ridiculed those in the Base that are concerned about the possibility  of a North American Union being formed. ( link3 )  And then this past week – the supreme insult of opening up the U.S. highways to Mexican Trucks on Labor Day Weekend! ( link4 )  And this names only a few of the steady stream of insults.  Its long past time that one of the Presidential candidates begin the process of offering the Base an apology on behalf of the President and the RNC.   The GOP voting Base is due an apology.    Several apologies.  How significant and absolutely cool it would be if my candidate, Duncan Hunter, would begin that healing process and start offering some of these apologies to the Base on behalf of the arrogant, misguided GOP Hierarchy that has trashed our Grand Old Party.   Darvin Dowdy
